Arizona integrated into PGA Tour and DraftKings partnership

The PGA Tour and DraftKings have announced that Arizona will now be incorporated into the ongoing partnership between the two organisations.

Both retail and sports betting will become available in the southwestern state as result of the commercial expansion, subject to regulatory approval.

As part of the expansion, the partners intend to develop a ‘19th hole’ experience at TPC Scottsdale, where golf fans will be able to place bets year round, watch sports and enjoy food and beverage services.

“The PGA TOUR commends the State of Arizona and Governor Ducey for their forward-thinking approach to legal sports betting,” stated Norb Gambuzza, Senior Vice President of Media and Gaming at the PGA Tour

“We are thrilled to work with DraftKings – along with the City of Scottsdale and the Thunderbirds – to explore a one-of-a-kind sportsbook experience at TPC Scottsdale and the world-class Waste Management Phoenix Open. ‘The People’s Open’ is one of the most attended events in golf and with this announcement we look forward to taking the fan experience to another level.”

City of Scottsdale administrators are cooperating closely with the duo on the project, as well as to maximise tourism opportunities and enhance economic and charitable benefits to the local community.

Thunderbirds, the host of the Waste Management Phoenix Open – the event which hosted the debut broadcast featuring PGA Tour and FanDuel betting content on NBC Sports’ Peacock streaming service – is also participating in the plans.

Details of the exact location of the retail sportsbook will be announced at a later date, but it has been confirmed that several locations at TPC Scottsdale are being considered.

Ezra Kucharz, Chief Business Officer at DraftKings, added: “When DraftKings became the first Official Betting Operator of the PGA Tour last summer, a number of possibilities opened up to innovate together.

“This momentous effort to pursue a first-of-its-kind sportsbook with the PGA Tour is a testament to the vision of both organisations that we believe will ultimately benefit Arizona sports fans who want to legally bet on sports.”

Additionally, DraftKings will serve as the exclusive sports betting partner of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and will cooperate with the PGA on marketing campaigns and hospitality experiences to promote TPC Scottsdale to golf fans and sports betting enthusiasts.

The decision by the PGA Tour and DraftKings to expand the commercial collaboration between the two into Arizona follows the passage of HB 2772 by the state legislature, authorising sports betting, awaiting confirmation by Governor Doug Ducey.
