Global live and on-demand streaming service, DAZN, has expanded its global reach into an eighth market by going live in Spain in a bid to provide affordable, accessible sports coverage to its fans.

The platform already operates in Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland and the U.S, while also streaming on social media in Brazil, with further plans to continue its expansion. The platform shows multiple live events at any one time, on nearly every device, including TVs, tablets, phones, PCs and games consoles.

Simon Denyer, CEO of the DAZN Group, was particularly optimistic about the new launch into the Spanish market. He said: “This is the dawn of a new era for Spanish sport fans as they join the revolution of flexible, accessible and affordable sport that we are rolling out around the world. Spain is a nation of sport lovers and they are ready for change.

“They want a better way to watch and we are incredibly proud to be making that happen as we expand our rapidly growing international business.”

During the press conference in which the expansion was announced, a line-up of the group’s exclusive sporting content was announced for the new market, which includes a number of international sporting events.

The group’s ambassadors include football stars Neymar Jnr, Cristiano Ronaldo, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, and Marc Márquez as well as football manager Jose Mourinho.

Both Neymar Jnr and Mourinho are set to perform punditry and promotional duties over the coming year as the broadcasting group continues its global expansion.

Neymar Jr commented: “Growing up in Brazil instils a love of sports, especially football. Brazilians rally behind the teams and athletes they love. I think DAZN has the same type of passion towards sports and wanting to make it as easy and affordable as possible for people to enjoy. Sports should be available for everyone and I’m happy to join a brand that has this goal in their DNA.”

José Mourinho concluded: “DAZN is giving football fans a new way to enjoy the sport and players they love. Their style of live football coverage is different from what I’ve experienced before.

“I like their authenticity and pushing the boundaries of sports broadcasting. I’m excited to join DAZN as a global ambassador and connect with football fans around the world with this platform.”

DAZN has agreed to a number of four-year broadcasting deals to cover the UK Premier League (2019/20 until 2021/22), MotoGP, Moto 2 and Moto3 (2019-2022), and Turkish Airlines EuroLeague (2019/20-2022/23).

In addition to this, DAZN will offer coverage on the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, UFC, Bellator, and PDC Darts, among many others.

“We said we were going to bring an exciting, flexible and affordable way to watch the best sport in Spain, and today we’ve done exactly that,” said Veronica Diquattro, EVP, Southern Europe, DAZN.

“This is just the start of our journey so our compelling price point reflects that. We will continue to build our portfolio of sports and when we add significant premium content fans should expect that to be reflected in our price, whilst always maintaining our approach of making sport more affordable and accessible.

“DAZN continues to work with the biggest stars, so I’m also delighted to announce two new ambassadors, megastars of sport: Neymar Jr and José Mourinho who will also feature in original content on the platform. This is a euphoric moment and we can’t wait to get started.”
