Serie A games will gain major exposure across the UK and Ireland throughout the 2026/27 season after both BBC and DAZN expanded their pre-existing broadcast deals.

The BBC will broadcast 38 Serie A games for the 2026/27 season in partnership with BBC ALBA, the BBC’s Scottish, Gaelic-language channel.

BBC Sport will stream 19 Serie A games on BBC iPlayer with English commentary, while BBC ALBA will broadcast the other 19 fixtures with Gaelic and English co-commentary.

The first 2026/27 Serie A fixture to broadcast on BBC platforms will be 19:35 BST Sunday 23 August fixture between Atalanta and Sassuolo, on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer.

This new deal expands upon the eight-game trial between BBC and the Italian football league. The sublicence deal started in February 2026 with games broadcasted on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer. BBC noted strong viewership from the eight games it broadcasted in the latter half of the 2025/26 season as a cause for the renewal.

Serie A is home to many British players, which includes Scotland’s Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour at Napoli, as well as English duo Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at AC Milan, and two new English signings for Inter with John Stones and Djed Spence.

2026 marked the first time BBC had live broadcast rights for Italy’s top football division. The league was a mainstay in the UK and Ireland through Channel Four’s coverage from 1992-2002 with the popular programme ‘Football Italia’.

After Channel Four lost the broadcast rights, Serie A games were passed about from broadcaster to broadcaster, with stints on UK Eurosport, ESPN UK, BT Sport (now TNT Sport), Channel 5 and now, DAZN.

DAZN’s new UK&I Serie A deal

DAZN has also renewed its broadcast rights agreement with the Italian league to continue broadcasting games from Italy on its streaming platform in the UK and Ireland.

All 380 games from the 2026/27 Serie A season will be available on DAZN in the UK and Ireland, with seven to eight matches exclusively shown on the streaming service each gameweek.

Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN, said: “Serie A is one of the world’s great football competitions, with a passionate fanbase and a rich football heritage. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lega Serie A and to bring every match to fans across the UK and Ireland for the 2026-27 season.

“DAZN is proud to be Serie A’s largest partner both in Italy and internationally, reflecting the depth of our commitment to the league and our shared ambition to expand its global audience. This renewal marks our continued investment in premium football content and the best viewing experience for fans.

“Together with our extensive football portfolio and our long-term partnership with Serie A across multiple markets, it further strengthens DAZN’s position as the global home of sport.”

DAZN has created an established presence in the UK and Ireland as a provider of live football on its over-the-top (OTT) platform, broadcasting over 400 live English non-league matches across the National League, National League North, and National League South.

DAZN also holds live broadcast rights for the Saudi Pro League, UEFA Women’s Champions League and other European women’s football leagues; such as Spain’s Liga F and Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga
