Germany’s premier ice hockey league the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) has announced online bookmaker mybet as its digital partner for the play-off knockout phase.

The sponsorship will see mybet feature prominently across the league’s social media channels and also during TV broadcasts.

Gernot Tripcke, the league’s managing director, said: “DEL fans will have the opportunity to place bets on their favourite teams. At the same time, we are running various campaigns to expand the play-offs appeal to wider sports fans.”

Deutsche Eishockey is recognised among Europe’s top ice hockey leagues, with its 14 teams drawing average crowds of 7,000-10,000 spectators per game.

Upon completion of the 2019/2020 DEL play-offs and championship, mybet will be given the first right to renew or upgrade its partnership.

The deal marks a remarkable turnaround by the German online bookmaker after relaunching in 2019. A former Frankfurt-listed enterprise, in 2018 an embattled mybet was forced into administration following a spoilt buyout which saw the company become insolvent.

The firm finally reached a last minute settlement by Malta-based investor Rhinoceros Group, powered by the EveryMatrix platform and Kambi sportsbook solution. Without this significant investment then mybet would have ceased its operations.

Insider Insight: DEL’s decision to support the bookmaker is a testament to how well mybet has resurrected its brand. DEL will also be able to reliably provide ice hockey fans around the world with sports betting options throughout its broadcasts, allowing for greater fan engagement as the competition reaches its climax.
