The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed a partnership with Sky Sports which will see the channel broadcast all 52 games of the Africa Cup of Nations live.

In January and February, Sky will cover the Cameroon-based tournament that has been postponed since last summer due to COVID-19.

CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, commented: “It is important for CAF to ensure that the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, being the single-biggest sporting event on African soil, and prime content, is accessible all over the world.”

The tournament will feature around 40 players from the Premier League including Liverpool FC‘s Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, Man City‘s Riyad Mahrez and Chelsea‘s Edouard Mendy.

Sky Sports Director of Football, Gary Hughes, added: “This is excellent news for football fans, who love to watch the best players in the world. We’re delighted to be adding this fantastic competition to our ever-expanding football offering in the UK & Ireland.

“This already includes Premier League, EFL, Scottish Premiership and FA Women’s Super League as well as international action in the form of World Cup Qualifiers, placing Sky Sports as the home of live football.”

Moreover, Viaplay has also secured a deal with the confederation which will show the Africa Women Cup of Nations and the CAF Champions League in nine countries.

The Africa Women Cup of Nations and CAF Champions League will also be available in markets of Viaplay – a brand of NENT Group – for the first time.

Veron Mosengo-Omba, CAF’s General Secretary, noted: “We welcome on board Viaplay and we are looking forward to a successful partnership starting in January 2022 with AFCON in Cameroon.

“We are also thrilled to provide through this partnership great exposure for our Women’s Football and Club Competitions in exciting markets, which will give CAF an opportunity to bring these competitions to new audiences.”

AdditionallyMoreover, hosted in Cameroon, the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations, sponsored by TotalEnergies, will offer almost a month of international football content from Africa’s 24 top-flight teams, as champions Algeria look for a third continental crown.

The 12th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Women Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from 2 July to 23 July, whilst serving as qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, which will be shown on Viaplay in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Poland.

Peter Nørrelund, NENT Group Chief Sports Officer, added: “Every week, African stars light up Europe’s best leagues, and the Africa Cup of Nations offers a unique combination of the continent’s biggest names together with the next generation of talents.
