Newcastle United has announced a partnership with football analytics specialist, StatsBomb, which will serve as the team’s official data and analytics provider.

The Premier League side has become the latest club to integrate StatsBomb’s advanced event data and IQ platform into its recruitment and performance analysis departments.

The partnership looks to strengthen Newcastle’s approach to certain aspects of modern football such as successful player acquisition and detailed opposition analysis.

Shergul Arshad, Chief Commercial Officer, StatsBomb, commented: “We are delighted to be working with one of the English Premier League’s proudest teams. Together we look forward to strengthening Newcastle United via data-based scouting and recruiting, with a shared goal of creating prolonged success for the club.”

Newcastle will utilise the Statsbomb IQ platform to ‘enhance the club’s tactical decisions and talent identification process’ throughout its current and future campaigns.

Furthemore, the firm has stated that its performance data will allow the Tyneside club to generate insights from thousands of matches across various league and cup competitions globally.

The deal also allows for Newcastle to analyse specific StatsBomb metrics across all of its matches and evaluate its opponents’ performances, whilst its metrics include Pressures by Team and Player, Player Positioning on Shots, and Pass Height and Footedness Information.

Last year, in a further expansion into the football market, Clube Atlético Mineiro also struck a deal with the UK-based enterprise, in a bid to enhance the Brazilian team’s analytics department.

The deal, which marked StatsBomb’s debut in Brazil, saw Mineiro receive the company’s data covering over 3,400 events per match, across multiple leagues and competitions across the globe.
