Why industry leaders are stepping into the ring at SBC’s charity boxing night

As charity sport becomes an increasingly visible expression of leadership culture, SBC’s flagship boxing event is drawing senior executives willing to test themselves in public for causes beyond business.

Senior figures from the sports betting and iGaming sector will once again trade boardrooms for boxing gloves this March, as the SBC Charity Boxing Championship returns to London with a sold-out black-tie audience and a growing reputation as one of the industry’s most demanding charity events.

This year’s edition, taking place on March 27, will see 12 executives compete across six bouts in aid of children’s charities, with Gamingtec confirmed as the event’s platinum sponsor.

Unlike many corporate-backed charity initiatives, the appeal of SBC’s boxing night lies in its personal stakes. Fighters train for months under professional conditions, with reputational risk, physical exposure and public accountability forming part of the challenge.

This element of personal commitment is underlined by Gamingtec founder Sapar Karyagdyyev, who will step into the ring himself to face Tamas Kusztos, co-founder of jackpot management platform SharedLuck.

  • Ben Cleminson (CEO, Square in the Air) vs Rob Fell (CEO, RiskCherry)
  • Lex Scott (VP Gaming, ITV) vs Roger Redfearn-Tyrzyk (COO, Shufti)

For SBC, the championship has become a deliberate counterpoint to the sector’s usual networking formats. According to founder and CEO Rasmus Sojmark, the event is designed to remind participants that leadership extends beyond commercial performance.

“The SBC Charity Boxing Championship is an initiative that means a great deal to me,” Sojmark said. “It’s important to remember that there are far bigger battles being fought beyond the boardroom.”

The evening will raise funds for The Oliver’s Wish Foundation, with proceeds ultimately supporting UK-based children’s charities including SUDC UK, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Chestnut Tree House.

Alongside Karyagdyyev’s bout, the fight card reflects the breadth of senior leadership across the sector, with match-ups including executives from Games Global, ITV, GiG, Lucky Streak and RiskCherry. While the format delivers spectacle, the underlying appeal is credibility: participants are judged as much on preparation and resilience as on their job titles.
