Independent sports digital media company and fan engagement specialists, Snack Media have been chosen by the Professional Footballers’ Association of England and Wales (PFA) to launch the inaugural PFA Fans’ Women Player of the Month Awards.
It marks the first time in its 111-year history the players’ union has held a monthly award for female footballers and follows the success of the regular PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month Awards, which recognise the best male footballers across the country’s top four divisions each month.
Just like the group’s work with the men’s award, Snack Media – who are the PFA’s digital media partner – will utilise their expertise within the sport to give more football supporters across the UK the opportunity to determine the winners and boost awareness of the league and its players.
They will welcome regular panelists from the PFA and Snack Media Group (of 300+ sports websites and 26 million football fans) plus guest panelists each month. These will include ex-pros, officials, managers, journalists, social media influencers and, crucially, supporters from across the country to determine a shortlist of potential winners each month before the vote is opening up to the general public.
In an Awards first, they will also release footage of all shortlisted players to make it even easier for voters to pick their favourite player. Fans will be able to vote for their winner via the Player of the Month Award voting widget which also houses the men’s categories and is embeddable on multiple websites at the same time.
Speaking about the newly-introduced PFA Fans’ Women Player of the Month Awards, and the decision to use Snack Media to run them PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor, commented: “There was no question about introducing a voting category for the women’s game. There are so many talented footballers in the FA WSL and they deserve to be recognised each month for their on-field achievements.

The first ever Women’s Award will be open for voting on Friday 12th October at 3pm until 8am on Monday 15th October. The winner we be announced at 11am that day.
