La Liga’s Basque club’s have reached an exclusive agreement to cap away tickets at €25 for the upcoming 19/20 Spanish football league season.
The teams involved in the deal are Athletic Bilbao, Deportivo Alaves, Osasuna, Real Sociedad and SD Eibar, with the cap applying exclusively to games in which the club’s play each other.
In a joint statement, the clubs announced that the initiative had been introduced ‘with the aim of promoting a good atmosphere among the clubs’ and ‘to encourage attendance’ at derby games.
Unlike other major football leagues around the continent, La Liga does not have a set blanket price for away tickets, leaving the Basque clubs free to set their own pricing. In comparison, the Premier League caps its away tickets at £30, while France’s Ligue 1 has a lowly cost of €10 for away fans.
After Osasuna’s promotion last season, the upcoming La Liga campaign will feature 20 Basque derbies.
Along with the set prices, it has been announced that away tickets will be allocated based on stadium size as opposed to a set amount of tickets.
The first of these fixtures will see Osasuna host Eibar on August 24th, before Real Sociedad travel to the 53,000 seater San Mames on August 30th to take on Athletic Bilbao.
