Real Oviedo has announced a new sponsorship with William Hill as the club prepares to commence its campaign in La Liga 2.
The deal, which comes just a week before the start of the new season in Spain will allow the betting operator to expand its presence within the country.
William Hill becomes a principal partner of the Spanish side and will benefit from exposure on the club’s matchday shorts.
The bookmaker has been active in expanding its presence in the Spanish second tier, confirming deals with seven clubs, it means that Real Oviedo join Las Palmas, Almeria, Real Zaragoza, Extremadura UD, AD Alcorcon, Elche CF and Albacete Balompie in being partnered with William Hill.
In previous statements, William Hill marketing has detailed that it seeks to become the benchmark for Segunda sponsorships, as the bookmaker moves to accelerate its presence across multiple European markets – a core directive of its corporate transformation strategy.
However, William Hill growth in Spanish marketing profile comes as the PSEO minority government confirmed that it will accept all recommendations put forward by Spain’s Civic Ombudsman to prohibit all forms of gambling advertising.
Last week, Spanish news sources reported that the PSOE government had begun drafting a ‘Royal Decree’ based on the Ombudsman’s recommendation to enforce the ‘strictest gambling advertising code’ possible.
In its mandate, the Spanish government has been advised to form specific legislative frameworks for differentiating digital services from traditional forms of advertising utilised by betting operators.
As yet, there remains no clear insight on the government’s stance with regards to sports sponsorship and betting partnerships.
