La Liga has expanded its reach thanks, again, to Disney+ this time in France as the streaming platform continues to battle for market share and subscribers.

Disney+ has added France to its growing list of markets in which it will broadcast live La Liga games for the upcoming 2026/27 season.

All 380 La Liga games will stream live on ESPN on Disney+ in France as well as studio shows, original programming and more.

The coverage will start on matchweek one, which will feature Jose Mourinho’s first game back as Real Madrid Manager away at Espanyol, as well as the reigning La Liga champions FC Barcelona game at Elche

Prominent La Liga fixtures will also be available for French viewers to watch. This includes both El Clásico fixtures between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as the Madrid derby (Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid) and the El Gran Derbi between Seville and Real Betis

La Liga is also home to several France national team players, such as France captain and all-time top goalscorer Kylian Mbappé, and his Real Madrid teammates Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni

Karl Holmes, General Manager, Disney+ EMEA, said: “We’re excited to bring La Liga to all Disney+ France customers in a fresh new way.

“La Liga has a strong connection with football fans in France, with many French players making their mark in Spain alongside iconic clubs and unforgettable rivalries, making it a great addition. We can’t wait for our customers to enjoy coverage that feels exciting, different and made for football fans today.”

Expanding the La-Liga Disney+ relationship

The launch of La Liga in France via Disney+ is another extension between the relationship between the Spanish top-flight league and the global streaming platform.

In 2021, Disney+ was granted the exclusive broadcasting rights to broadcast all La Liga games in the US until the end of the 2028/29 season, a deal worth $1.4bn. This replaced beIN Sports as La Liga’s US broadcaster to scale its reach among American viewers.

In August 2025, the broadcast partnership expanded to the UK and Ireland. Disney+ became the exclusive broadcaster of La Liga Saturday primetime matches in the UK and Ireland as part of a three-year deal.

Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden were then added to Disney+’s coverage of La Liga, with all 380 countries becoming available in these countries after securing a deal with the league in July 2026.

Speaking on the recent France broadcast deal, La Liga President, Javier Tebas, said: “This agreement is another important milestone in our global collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, building on our successful collaborations across the US, the UK and Ireland, and most recently the Nordics, and reflects our shared ambition to bring the very best of Spanish football to fans around the world.”

Every market counts

The battle for live football broadcasting rights has intensified in recent years as streaming platforms have entered the fray to acquire new subscribers.

As streaming platforms like Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are globally available in most countries, each market represents an opportunity to gain new customers by acquiring broadcast rights for the world’s most popular sport.

Disney+ has placed significant focus on football broadcasting rights beyond its partnership with La Liga. The platform is the European broadcaster of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, while picking up rights for the men’s UEFA Champions League and Europa League in selected European markets as part of a new deal

Outside of Europe, Disney+ is the UEFA Europa League broadcaster in Brazil, Central and South America countries.

Compared to its primary football broadcast competitor, Prime Video, Disney’s approach is similar.

For the past several years, Prime Video has had the first pick for Tuesday UEFA Champions League games in the UK and Ireland, and will continue this deal through to the end of the 2030/31 season.

The same deal applies to Tuesday Champions League games in Germany, while in Italy, Prime Video has the first pick of games on Wednesdays.

Prime Video also has women’s football rights in European countries, including Germany and Italy. The streaming platform also broadcasts La Liga games in the UK behind the add-on service La Liga TV, as well as Ligue 1 games behind a pay-per-view model
