Media reports suggest that Amazon has entered discussions to invest in regional sports programmer and Bally Sports operator, Diamond Sports

The Wall Street Journal quoted sources close to the matter as saying that the negotiations involve a strategic investment and a multi-year streaming rights partnership, with Diamond currently covering fixtures involving over 40 major sports teams.

A potential agreement would mean that Amazon Prime Video would take over the streaming duties for these games, the media outlet further noted.

No financial details have been revealed yet, with the Wall Street Journal saying that Diamond will continue to operate its cable networks that currently hold local rights agreements with teams from the MLB, NBA and NHL.

Earlier this year, Diamond Sports Group filed for protection from bankruptcy after a series of delays with its debt payments.

Despite the hiccup, the company remained firm that its broadcasting rights deals with sports teams currently in place will remain unaffected by the ordeal.
