Borussia Dortmund has announced a multi-year partnership with AI-driven content platform WSC Sports to boost fan engagement.

Under the agreement, the Bundesliga club gains access to WSC Sports’ AI-powered platform, which automates the creation, management and distribution of video content, aiming to connect more consistently with its supporters.

The platform’s technology will analyse the club’s live Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA club competition matches in real-time The platform also automatically creates and distributes content to fans via social media platforms and BVB-TV, the club’s official video streaming platform.

Sascha Fligge, Director of Communications at Borussia Dortmund, emphasised the importance of the club’s digital content strategy, stating that it is “extremely important” in engaging with its global fanbase.

“We are delighted to partner with WSC Sports whose AI-powered technology will propel our ability to produce and share more great content around the games and, importantly, in the period between live matches, retaining fan engagement throughout the year,” Fligge said.

“The platform’s ability to unlock our video archive means we’re now making full use of this valuable content, providing fans with iconic moments from the past at ease and we can explore fresh opportunities to monetise this content.”

As mentioned by Fligge, WSC Sports will also analyse five years’ worth of Dortmund matches from its content archive. This will enable the club to repurpose thousands of memorable moments from the club’s history to fit any aspect ratio. This feature will be especially helpful for engaging with younger supporters by posting historical moments on social media.

Aviv Arnon, Chief Business Development Officer and Co-Founder of WSC Sports, said: “It’s a thrill to partner with a club of BVB’s stature who have one of the most passionate and recognisable fan bases across all sports. WSC Sports is a proven formula for expanding reach, growing fandom, and unlocking revenue opportunities across platforms and we are excited to realise this opportunity with BVB.”

Arnon continued by referencing WSC Sports’ existing partnership with the Bundesliga, adding that Borussia Dortmund will now be able to “bring those same innovative solutions home to supercharge content production and facilitate more original storytelling”.

Fligge concluded: “We know our fans are extremely passionate and we want to ensure they receive more of the content they crave, on the viewing platform of their choice. The partnership with WSC Sports enables us to produce more content that is more personalised and tailored to supporters’ evolving preferences.”

WSC Sports has partnered with several sports clubs and leagues across the world. In July, EuroLeague Basketball became the latest organisation to agree a deal with the company.
