German footballing giant FC Bayern Munich achieved €1.07bn for the 2023/24 financial year in its second-best annual results in its history.
FC Bayern Munich football team achieved €951.5m in record turnover, whilst FC Bayern Basketball GmbH and FC Bayern Munich eV helped to make the total turnover break over €1bn.
The group’s total earnings before taxes (EBT) rose by 15% to €62.7m, whilst net profit for the year increased by 21% to €43.1m.
Speaking on the results at the annual FC Bayern members meeting, Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern, expressed his delight at achieving success off the pitch, however, he did address his eagerness for the football team to regain the Bundesliga title after being denied of a 12th consecutive title last season after Bayer Leverkusen won the trophy.
He said: “FC Bayern has always stood for economic solidity paired with maximum success, both on and off the pitch. This has always characterised us. This outstanding annual result shows that we continue to be one of the absolute top clubs in Europe in economic terms.
“At the same time, however, it should not obscure the fact that we were not satisfied with a season without a trophy in sporting terms. This makes it all the more important that we continue to work on the future of FC Bayern with the utmost commitment and foresight.
“I would like to thank my fellow board members Michael Diederich and Max Eberl as well as the entire supervisory board under the leadership of Herbert Hainer for their trusting cooperation.”
Like all 17 other Bundesliga teams, FC Bayern’s revenue is supported by the broadcast media rights deal the league currently has, which has now increased by 2%.
The new broadcast deal for the German top-flight football league is now valued at €4.48bn, which is set to kick-in during the 2025/26 season and conclude at the end of the 2028/29 season.
This lucrative broadcast deal means more for German football clubs due to the 50+1 rule, which mandates that a majority ownership of any German football club must be controlled by fan members. This aspect of FC Bayern was also celebrated at the annual members meeting.
At the meeting, FC Bayern President Herbert Hainer confirmed that the club has the record number of members, totalling 382,000 members. Not content with this record number, Hainer revealed that the club is seeking to grow its membership to 400,000 in line with celebrating FC Bayern’s 125th anniversary next year.
On a more seminal note, Heiner confirmed that FC Bayern will retire the number five in honour of one its greatest legendary figures, Franz Beckenbauer.
The German football icon served as a player, captain and manager for both FC Bayern and the German national team, before taking up a role at the club as President and as an advisory board member.
Hainer commented on the number retirement, stating: “Dearest Franz, you made this club what it is today, a byword for the greatest possible success, a unique style and profound humanity, as a player, coach, president and companion.
“You gave FC Bayern the charisma that continues to have an impact today Franz, we miss you. What’s left and what binds us is the memory of you. Take time for each other – that is certainly his greatest legacy. Der Kaiser will always remain a part of the FC Bayern family, even after his death.”
