DAZN has secured a new sports broadcast deal, this time for the UIM E1 World Championship, a celebrity-backed electric raceboat series.
Under the multi-year agreement, DAZN will broadcast all sessions of the UIM E1 World Championship for free. This includes global highlights from group stages and qualification sessions, along with exclusive content featuring E1’s celebrity owners and the series’ male and female pilots.
The final race of the series, which will be hosted in Miami, will be broadcast exclusively by the streaming platform across a range of regions including Canada, DACH, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand and Japan.
This marks the second season of the competition, which DAZN was also part of, with former NFL player Tom Brady’s team emerging victorious.
Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN Group, commented: “DAZN and E1 are both dedicated to building an experience which engages fans across the world with new and innovative content. By extending our partnership with E1, DAZN will continue to deliver one-of-a-kind entertainment to fans, merging cutting-edge technology with unparalleled sporting action.”
As noted above, the UIM E1 World Championship features a plethora of celebrity team owners, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Steve Aoki and Rafael Nadal. Furthermore, the competition is presented by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
DAZN and PIF have a longstanding relationship. The two organisations have worked together on other sports particularly boxing, which has seen various commercial benefits since Saudi Arabia began investing in the sport.
Last October, it was reported that PIF was looking to acquire a stake in DAZN. Reuters confirmed that PIF is among several potential investors, with the Saudi organisation focusing on a 10% stake, valued at around $1bn.
Rodi Basso, CEO at E1, remarked: “At E1, we’re driven by innovation and pushing the boundaries of possibility. In DAZN, we have a broadcaster who shares our vision to engage the sports fans of the future through technological advancement and unique sporting entertainment.
“In season two, we continue in our mission to redefine racing on water, providing sports fans across the world with a compelling sports product at the intersection of motorsport, entertainment and sustainability. Fans can expect more drama, jeopardy, and adrenaline as the RaceBirds take flight once again.”
