The National Hockey League (NHL) has signed a five-year media rights agreement  with Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) to broadcast its 1,400 live NHL games, in Poland, every season on NENT’s Viaplay streaming service.

The deal expands the participants’ relationships to nine European countries, and reinforces Viaplay’s premium sports offering in Poland, with Premier League and Formula 1 ‘to come in the following years’.

David Proper, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Media & International Strategy stated: “Through our long and expanding partnership with NENT Group, we have been able to deliver our game to more fans in Europe than ever before.”

Starting on 12 October between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning, viewers in Poland can watch all NHL regular season games live on Viaplay, including every NHL Saturday and NHL Sunday broadcasts.

Additionally, Viaplay will show live coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final and other marquee NHL events throughout the season, including the NHL Winter Classic, NHL All-Star Game, NHL Stadium Series, NHL Heritage Classic and NHL Global Series.

“This arrangement will allow us to superserve our very passionate Polish fan base. We look forward to continuing to offer exceptional programming to our Polish fans,” Proper added.

In 2020, NENT Group extended its exclusive NHL broadcast rights in the Nordic region. This means that it holds exclusive NHL rights in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania until 2026.

NENT is currently leveraging its Viaplay brand to establish a strong foothold in sports broadcasting across Europe, including in Poland where it will cover over 120 live matches per year as home of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.

Additional sports covered by the tournament include the W Series, Nürburgring 24 Hours and Ferrari Challenge motorsport, Bundesliga handball, snooker, pool and PDC darts, among others.
