The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has announced that sports betting platform Interwetten is to become the new main sponsor of all European Tour events staged in Germany and Austria.

The organisation has stated that there are ‘innovative activation possibilities’ for Interwetten at the events of PDC Europe, as darts becomes increasingly relevant in target markets.

Werner von Moltke, the CEO of PDC Europe, commented: “The partnership with Interwetten makes me very happy. I have rarely experienced such a competent and motivated partner.

“I know that Interwetten not only wants to present itself as a sponsor but will also make sure that our events will become even more attractive and that the exchange with our fans will be intensified. Therefore, I am very much looking forward to the cooperation and thank them for their trust in us.”

Furthemore, fan experiences will also be offered from the collaboration which are aiming to ‘raise to new emotional heights’, whilst also looking to ‘intensify’ live events.

Stefan Sulzbacher, CEO at Interwetten, added: “Darts is an exciting development opportunity for us as the sport enjoys increasing popularity in our core markets Germany and Austria.

“We are therefore very proud about this multi-year partnership with a renowned organisation such as PDC Europe. This will allow us to offer our customers an even larger portfolio of entertainment and we can also set new accents in the development of new markets.”

In recent weeks, the PDC has revealed that it is set to host the first televised women’s tournament this summer – the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay.

Being held on 24 July this year in Blackpool, the competition will consist of eight players in one afternoon session at the Winter Gardens, with the opportunity of a £25,000 prize fund as well as a spot in the 2022 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts.
