Sportradar’s standing in the Canadian sports media space was significantly boosted this week when the Swiss firm put pen to paper on a deal with Sportsnet.

The contract focuses on the development of Sportsnet’s sports broadcasts of the NHL and MLB, using  Sportradar’s real-time stats, player information and data sets through its OnAir service.

Additionally, the St Gallen-based, NYSE-listed sportstech and data firm will also utilise its radar360 web-based research application, which will work to improve the Canadian broadcaster’s real-time sports storytelling.

Brian Josephs, Head of Regional Sales for North America, at Sportradar, said: “We are proud to partner with Sportsnet, a market leader, who is committed to entertaining and informing Canadian sports fans.

“This collaboration showcases Sportradar’s expertise in enhancing sports content through data and technology. Together, we will bring fans closer to the action, providing them a unique, more engaging viewing experience.”

Sportradar is one of the leading companies in the global sports data and technology space, being a partner of a huge range of sporting stakeholders including broadcasters, leagues, teams, authorities and bookmakers.

The agreement with Sportsnet marks the latest extension of the group’s links to media, streaming and broadcasting. Engagement in this area has seen the company sign deals with the likes of the NHL, covering the league’s streaming service and the Tennis Channel.

In the case of the Sportsnet deal, the arrangement will cover a wide geographic breadth across the media outlet’s full brand portfolio.

This will encompass its East, Ontario and Pacific regional channels as well as Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet World, Sportsnet+, the Sportsnet Radio Network, Sportsnet.ca, the Sportsnet app and podcasts.

Sportradar’s comprehensive support will apply to Sportsnet’s entire brand portfolio, which includes their regional channels, East, Ontario, West, and Pacific, as well as Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet World, Sportsnet+, the Sportsnet Radio Network, Sportsnet.ca, the Sportsnet app and podcasts.

Sportsnet is the top-ranked sports network in Canada, having firmly established its place as the most viewed outlet as the primary broadcaster of the MLB and perhaps most significantly the hugely popular NHL.
