Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL) has signed its first deal with a betting company in some time.

The hockey team has announced a deal with PokerStars, an online gaming brand owned by the multinational betting conglomerate Flutter Entertainment.

Terms of the deal will see PokerStars branding featured at Flyers’ home games at the Wells Fargo Centre and during TV spots. Additional plans include fan engagement elements, like ticket and memorabilia prize draws.

“We’re excited to welcome PokerStars to the Flyers family,” said Todd Glickman, Chief Revenue Officer at Comcast Spectacor, the Flyers’ parent company.

“Their dedication to innovation and giving epic rewards and experiences to their players aligns perfectly with our goals of engaging our fantastic community of fans.”

PokerStars has been pursuing greater visibility in the competitive North American betting market, as well as an expansion of its sportsbook offering, having traditionally been a poker and igaming operator.

This is not the firm’s first foray into ice hockey in pursuit of this ambition. In 2022 it partnered with Detroit Red Wings, one of the most historically successful NHL teams, whilst outside of hockey the brand has a notable presence in Formula One.

Meanwhile, in the case of the Flyers, the deal further extends the club’s betting industry engagement. Prior to this week’s PokerStars deal the club has signed deals with Rush Street Interactive (RSI), Betway and both SugarHouse Casino and PlaySugarHouse.com.

“We are thrilled to partner with such a beloved hockey team,” remarked Rob Battista, Senior Director of Commercial, PokerStars North America.

“Hockey fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and we can’t wait to collaborate with the team to bring exciting tournaments and rewards to our communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.”
