After Sunday’s Super Bowl LX, the Seattle Seahawks will be up for sale according to reports and Jeff Bezos’ name has once again been linked to the franchise.
The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly up for sale after competing at Super Bowl LX on Sunday (February 8).
Per an ESPN report, citing sources from league and ownership familiar with the matter, the Seahawks’ ownership group have already held discussions with the NFL over the past week over a potential sale.
The Seahawks have been under the ownership of the Paul Allen Estate since 2018 following the passing of former owner Paul G. Allen. A spokesperson for the Paul Allen Estate told ESPN “I have no news to share” and “our focus right now is winning the Super Bowl”.
Since his passing, Allen’s sister Jody Allen has assumed control of the Seahawks and NBA franchise the Portland Trailblazers, which was also owned by Allen, on behalf of the estate.
There is an estate directive in place for the sale of the Seahawks and Trailblazers for all proceeds to be donated to charity. A Washington state law deadline in May 2024 required 10% of the proceeds from the sales of the franchises to be paid to the state.
Is Jeff Bezos the frontrunner and for how much?
According to data published by Forbes, the Seahawks were valued at $6.7bn in August 2025. The franchise’s revenue stood at $624m for the 2024-25 season, a 23% increase from the year before, with an operating income of $143m.
ESPN reported the franchise could be sold for anywhere between $7-8bn; this would be an NFL record for a team acquisition. The most recent majority sale for an NFL franchise was the Washington Commanders for $6.05bn in July 2023 to a consortium led by Josh Harris.
Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos has consistently been linked with acquiring an NFL franchise over the past several years, including the Seahawks.
Bezos was connected to a potential acquisition of the Commanders when the team was up for sale. With a net worth of $250bn, making him the fourth-richest person in the world, Bezos certainly has the funds available to acquire an NFL franchise but his interest remains a question.

A triumphant farewell to the Allen era?
If the Seahawks were to beat the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LX it would become the first champion since 1991 to be sold. Super Bowl champions the New York Giants were sold to Robert Tisch in 1991 for a 50% stake.
The Seahawks are currently a -4.5 favourite to beat the Patriots at Super Bowl LX, according to US betting market lines.
Allen bought the Seahawks in 1997 from Ben Behring for $194m to become the franchise’s owner. The Seahawks won its first and only Super Bowl in 2013 and appeared in the following Super Bowl in 2014, beaten by Tom Brady’s Patriots.
This era of the franchise was labelled as the ‘Legion of Boom’, led by quarterback Russell Wilson and backed by an impressive defense consisting of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas to the franchise’s most successful period.
The Seahawks also appeared in Super Bowl XL in 2005 but lost out to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The franchise under Allen’s ownership also won three NFC championships in 2005, 2013 and 2014, with its most recent win under Jody Allen’s control in 2025.
During Allen’s ownership he oversaw the team’s move to Lumen Field in 2002 and blocked a potential relocation from previous owner Behring to North Carolina when purchasing the franchise. Any sale of the franchise will need to be approved by the NFL and its Executive Committee unanimously by all 32 franchises.
