Cadillac F1 is attracting attention from potential buyers as its debut season struggles continue.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool FC and the Red Sox, has reportedly met with struggling Cadillac F1 to discuss a potential takeover.
According to The Guardian, which learned of the meeting, an agreement could be worth more than $2bn.
FSG has stakes in several prominent sports organisations across leagues worldwide, including Premier League club Liverpool FC, MLB franchise Boston Red Sox, NHL team Pittsburgh Penguins, NASCAR team RFK Racing and Boston Common Golf in TGL.
However, acquiring Cadillac F1 would be its first project in Formula 1, a sport that has seen commercial revenues increase significantly over recent years. F1 reported record revenue of $3.87bn in 2025.
Backed by General Motors and Mark Walter’s TWG Global, Cadillac has endured a brutal start to the season, currently sitting at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship with zero points.
FSG will likely face competition if it goes ahead with a deal, however. Reports suggest multiple groups have met with the F1 team, though who they would be up against isn’t public knowledge.
Mark Walter’s garage sale of sports teams
Walter has already made two sales this year, stepping away from Chelsea and the Los Angeles Lakers.
His departure from Chelsea followed the end of the shared ownership arrangement established when the club was acquired for £4.25bn in 2022.

Clearlake Capital, the majority shareholder since the takeover, acquired the interests held by Walter and Todd Boehly. Chelsea announced that Clearlake would control 99.9% of the Premier League club.
Walter acquired the LA Lakers in 2025 from the Buss family. However, just 14 months later, a deal was agreed to sell the controlling stake to a consortium involving former Disney chief executive Bob Iger and Thrive Capital Founder Joshua Kushner.
The transaction was reported at about $12bn, making it one of the highest valuations ever attached to a professional sports franchise.
These sales come against the backdrop of investigations into his wider business interests.
The US Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating financial arrangements involving insurance companies connected to Walter, including Delaware Life and Clear Spring Life and Annuity.
Investigators are looking at whether assets held by the insurance businesses were used to support investments and lending arrangements involving other companies connected to Walter’s empire.
TWG Global has rejected allegations of wrongdoing, stating that there has been no fraud and that it is working with regulators to address their enquiries.
Did FSG sell Liverpool stake to buy into F1?
The group, led by owner John Henry, has built a multi-sport investment business since acquiring Liverpool in 2010. Earlier this year, FSG sold a 38% stake in the Premier League club to 1892 Holdings, a consortium involving Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos.

The transaction valued Liverpool at approximately £5.5bn, a significant increase on the £300m FSG paid for the club.
Bezos is one of the consortium’s high-profile investors, led by businessman Amit Bhatia. The investment also provides the group with an option to pursue a full takeover of Liverpool before August 2027.
While FSG haven’t commented on the reported talks held with Cadillac F1, using money from the minority sale of Liverpoll could be a potential avenue into one of the world’s most watched sports.
