Spring Media claim Women’s Champions League rights to seven clubs

Rights agency Spring Media has sealed broadcast partnerships with seven European women’s football clubs for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Swedish company will hold the international media rights – which are acquired through Team Marketing on behalf of UEFA – to reigning champions Lyon, Wolfsburg, Chelsea, PSV Eindhoven, Ajax, FC Rosengard and Goteborg’s 2020/21 campaigns respectively.

Games will also be streamed to the female football ‘Wnited OTT’ platform, which went live last year. Furthermore, the knockout stages, quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the competition are included in the deal.

Last year, the final between Lyon and Wolfsburg brought in record-breaking viewing figures in Germany and France, with over 1.7 million people watching as Lyon were crowned winners in San Sebastián.

Torsten Billing, a partner at Spring Media, commented: “Spring Media’s involvement in women’s football dates back to the launch of the agency in 2011 and our groundbreaking cooperation with the Swedish top league, OBOS Damallsvenskan.

“It is great that we are now experiencing a growing interest in women’s football from broadcasters and sponsors. We remain dedicated to continuing our work in increasing visibility and commercial values.”
