The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 in Japan is set to be shown live on both TV Asahi and Nippon TV.

The channels have each been long-term rights holders of the Olympics, including the recent 2020 Summer Games staged in Tokyo.

A statement from FIBA read: “These media rights deals are a testament to the significant local interest in the event, which Japan is hosting jointly with the Philippines and Indonesia next year.”

Furthermore, the two broadcasters will also carry the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. While Japan has already qualified for the event as one of the host countries, they are playing in the Qualifiers ahead of August 2023.

Starting from November last year, 80 national sides are currently in the middle of playing home and away games across six qualifying windows to secure places in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The Qualifiers are being played over four regions of Africa, Americas, Asia/Oceania and Europe in the lead up to FIBA’s flagship men’s event.

With the Cup beginning on 25 August next year, the competition will be played for the first time across three host nations which include the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
