The 2024 Copa America is going to be hosted by the USA, featuring 10 teams from South America and six from North and Central America and the Caribbean.
As CONCACAF and CONMEBOL come together to form a strategic partnership, this will be just the second time the competition has been hosted outside of South America.
The tournament will feature 10 CONMEBOL teams and six CONCACAF/guest teams. The federations will also partner for a four-team club competition that begins in 2024.
The federation explained: “CONMEBOL and Concacaf will also organise a centralised ‘final four’ style club competition featuring the best clubs from the respective confederations.
“The four participating teams (two from each confederation) will qualify through existing CONMEBOL and Concacaf club competitions and the two confederations are working towards the first edition of this tournament being played in 2024.”
Argentina is the defending champion of the Copa America after beating Brazil 1-0 in the 2021 final.
The US held the tournament in 2016 for a centenary edition, and now is also the joint host for the 2026 World Cup with Mexico.
