Etihad Airways will become the official main sponsor of La Liga club Girona FC in a newly agreed deal that will span across the next three seasons.
Girona – who share the same owner as Manchester City; City Football Group – stated it shares a commitment with the Middle Eastern airline of “excellence, community and the power of connecting people and culture”.
As the main sponsor, Etihad Airways will gain a prominent presence on the team’s kits from the upcoming season as well as in the stadium. The collaboration will also provide opportunities for fans such as unique promotions and special events.
The new sponsorship agreement with Etihad Airways comes off the heels of one of Girona’s most successful seasons in the club’s history, finishing third in La Liga and gaining qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Delfí Geli, President of Girona FC, said: “We are incredibly proud of Etihad Airways as our main sponsor. Etihad’s global perspective and its commitment to excellence reflect our own aspirations.”
The new agreement also falls in line with Etihad Airways’ increasing commitment to the Spanish market. The airline increased its operations to Spain by 50% last summer and will operate 10 weekly flights to Barcelona and Madrid throughout the duration of 2024.
Etihad Airways will introduce seasonal flights, which will operate three times a week to Malaga starting in June.
Arik De, Commercial Director of Etihad Airways, added: “We are delighted to collaborate with Girona FC, a club that resonates with our values and brand aspirations.
“This sponsorship is a demonstration of our dedication to the Spanish and Catalan market and a demonstration of our objective of strengthening our ties between the UAE and Spain.
“Etihad Airways hopes to have a successful collaboration with Girona and to be able to put our money to rest through football.”
