OKTAGON MMA has further extended its broadcasting reach via a deal with RTL, one of Germany’s largest media outlets.

The Czech-Slovak promotion has been seeking wider visibility throughout Europe as it targets a podium spot in the highly competitive MMA market.

RTL+ will broadcast the company’s OKTAGON 62 event on 12 October, which is set to host 58,000 spectators in attendance according to the company.

Pavol Neruda, CEO and Co-Founder of OKTAGON MMA, remarked: “We are delighted to be starting a new chapter in martial arts in Germany together with RTL. Just as previous generations revered boxing, today’s OKTAGON MMA fighters are the new heroes.

“They inspire people to be athletic, have perseverance and have the fighting spirit that lies within each and every one of us. Together we want to present these values and leave a lasting mark on German sports culture.”

Founded and based in Bratislava, Slovakia, OKTAGON MMA has operated with a focus on continental Europe throughout much of its existence.

The firm expects strong engagement in Germany due to counting several German fighters on its roster, as well as benefiting from its strong standing in its founding country, in the neighbouring Czech Republic, and other Central European markets.

Central Europe is not the only region on the company’s agenda, however. It has also been pursuing expansion in the UK, hosting its first event in the country in Manchester late last year and inking a media deal with terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4.

Inga Leschek, CCO RTL Germany, said: “Tomorrow we will see the TV sensation of the decade with the boxing match between Raab and Halmich. RTL+ will then continue with even tougher martial arts.

“With OKTAGON 62 we present the largest mixed martial arts event that Europe has ever seen. The audience can expect a breathtaking show that perfectly complements our diverse sports portfolio of American football, Football and motorsport. Trigger warning: definitely not for the faint-hearted!”
