The BBC and talkSPORT have secured an extension of radio commentary rights to the Premier League for an additional four seasons.

Under the renewed agreement, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds will broadcast 209 Premier League matches each season from 2025/26 to 2028/29. The coverage will include at least five out of the 10 weekly fixtures, with exclusive commentary on two Saturday 3pm matches.

BBC Radio 5 Live secured four of the six available audio packages, granting them the rights to broadcast matches on Sundays at 14:00 and 16:30, as well as the previously mentioned two Saturday 15:00 matches and one at 17:30.

Heidi Dawson, Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra, said: “With more live commentary matches than ever before, BBC Radio 5 Live remains the home of Premier League football.

“For the next four years 5 Live will bring football fans the biggest games across the weekend, with all the drama and excitement from the world’s greatest football league.”

As for talkSPORT, the station will broadcast approximately 111 matches, including Saturday 12:30pm kick-offs, evening fixtures on Fridays and Mondays, as well as any rearranged midweek matches.

Scott Taunton, EVP, President of Broadcasting at talkSPORT parent group News UK, said: “Today we continue our partnership as the Premier League’s only national commercial radio partner bringing all the action across weeknights, including Monday night football, as well as kicking off the weekend with the exclusive Saturday lunchtime game.

“talkSPORT retains its position as the home of football, with more live games than any other radio broadcaster.”

Paul Molnar, Chief Media Officer at the Premier League, said he is happy to continue the long-term partnerships with the BBC and talkSPORT. He cited both broadcasters’ consistently providing excellent live Premier League football on many different platforms.

Molnar concluded: “Their engaging live commentary and wider programming is an important service for Premier League fans across the UK, and we look forward to working with both organisations over the next four seasons.”

Earlier this year, the EFL also announced renewed media rights deals with talkSPORT and BBC Radio to enhance coverage for EFL clubs and competitions.
