The Rest is Football podcast and show will return to Netflix for the next two years as the popularity of its World Cup coverage will be available to Premier League fans.
Gary Linekar’s The Rest is Football podcast and show will remain on Netflix covering the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Goalhanger, the parent company and producer of the Rest is Football, confirmed the streaming giant has extended a two-year agreement to take the partnership through to EURO 2028, which will be held in the UK and Ireland.
Linekar, alongside co-hosts Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will deliver two Netflix episodes of the Rest is Football each week on Mondays and Fridays. Starting from August 2026, the trio will discuss the most prevalent talking points from each Premier League matchweek, as well as delivering analysis on a weekly basis.
The Netflix deal extension follows The Rest is Football’s coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which produced 40 shows across the competition on Netflix.
The Rest is Football podcast will also run alongside the two weekly Netflix shows on podcasting platforms.
The podcast/show also received licensing from the Premier League last season to broadcast highlights of some of the league’s most iconic players for a series titled ‘Premier League Greats’.
This show saw Linekar, Shearer and Richards analyse players such as Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and Kevin De Bruyne‘s greatest highlights and moments in the Premier League.
“We had a brilliant time making the show during the World Cup, and the response was incredible, so it’s great to be back on Netflix every week throughout the Premier League season,” said Linekar.
“The Rest Is Football podcast will continue across the week too, while the Netflix show gives us another chance to get stuck into the biggest stories. Expect plenty of opinions, plenty of laughs and, with Alan and Micah involved, probably a few arguments as well.”
The World Cup success
The Premier League deal comes after The Rest of Football became one of the most popular sports shows on Netflix during the World Cup this summer.
Goalhanger revealed the show filmed in New York City appeared in Netflix’s Daily Top 10 TV chart every day of its run, peaking at No. 1 in the UK.
Alongside Linekar, Shearer and Richards appeared a guest list of former football professionals, such as Frank Lampard, Patrick Vieira, Joe Cole and Harry Maguire, as well as celebrity guests like comedian Romesh Ranganathan and music artists Niall Horan.
Tony Pastor, Co-Founder of Goalhanger, detailed the journey of the football podcast and now show, which started after the 2022 World Cup and is now on the largest streaming platform in the world.
