The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced it will return to Macau for the first time in 10 years.
Set to take place on 23 November, the UFC has partnered with Galaxy Macau, selecting the Galaxy Arena, Macau’s new cultural and entertainment landmark, as the location for the fight night card.
The UFC entered Asia in 2010 with Macau becoming a stronghold for the organisation. The city hosted three fight nights between 2012 and 2014, with this upcoming event marking UFC’s return to Greater China after 10 years.
Galaxy Arena was named as the event’s location at a partnership signing ceremony earlier this week. The local government hopes this collaboration will enhance Macau’s reputation as a “City of Sports”, attracting sports enthusiasts from around the world.
The arena has played host to several sports tournaments and events over recent years, such as the ITTF men’s and women’s World Cup Macau 2024 and the Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macau.
Kevin Chang, UFC SVP and Head of Asia, attended the event partnership signing ceremony, alongside Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer of Macau of Galaxy Entertainment Group, Leanne Chu, VP of UFC Business Operations and Jeffrey Jiang, SVP of Entertainment Services at Galaxy Entertainment Group.
At the ceremony, Chang stated: “We are ecstatic to be back at this incredible destination city. Our last UFC event here was a decade ago in 2014, and since then, our brand has grown by leaps and bounds.
“We are proud to partner with Galaxy Macau and can’t wait to put on an electrifying show at the state-of-the-art Galaxy Arena to the delight of fans across the region.”
The MMA promotion as always has hosted events across the world this year. However, the UFC is set to make history, with its first event at the Las Vegas Sphere in September.
The event includes a landmark sponsorship as Riyadh Season has been named as its title partner – the first time the UFC has named a title partner as part of one of its pay-per-view events.
