DAZN has added another feather in its sports media cap with the addition of EuroLeague Women, the pan-European women’s basketball league.
The OTT sports streaming platform has become a global broadcast partner of the league via a deal with FIBA Europe, the continental governing body for European basketball.
Terms will see DAZN cover two EuroLeague Women games per gameday, including a ‘game of the week’ exclusive to the platform. DAZN asserts that the ‘global profile of the league will grow’ due to content reaching more fans internationally.
“We are thrilled to partner with DAZN, a global leader in sports streaming, to further elevate EuroLeague Women,” said FIBA Europe President, Jorge Garbajosa.
“This agreement aligns with our strategic vision to strengthen women’s basketball by bringing our top-level competition to an even broader audience, showcasing the incredible basketball talent in Europe.”
Women’s sports worldwide has been enjoying considerable growth. In Europe, women’s football has seen the benefit of this the most, with the likes of the Women’s Super League (WSL) and UEFA Women’s Champions League attracting new waves of attendance and viewership figures, as well as securing new sponsorship opportunities.
Women’s basketball has seen the most growth in the US. Targeting this high-value market may be a key objective for EuroLeague Women and DAZN, whilst the latter continues to build up its basketball content via the deal, having recently signed an agreement with the rebranded UK Super League Basketball.
DAZN is also hosts FIBA’s Courtside 1891 streaming service on its platform for FIBA World Cup and Qualifier games.
Hannah Brown, Co-CEO of Women’s Sport at DAZN, said: “DAZN can offer leagues and federations what no one else can – unparalleled global reach via our digitally native, free and engaging environment.
“We are delighted to be working alongside EuroLeague Women to build an exciting future for women’s basketball – one which has untapped athletic, fan and commercial potential.”
