The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has banned Nicolás Arreche from the sport after being found guilty of breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) rules.
Along with a four year ban, the Argentinian tennis player has also been fined $8,000 in regards to his attempts to contrive the outcome of tennis matches and failing to report corrupt approaches to the ITIA.
The breaches of the rules that Arreche has been found guilty of includes Section D.1.d of the 2018 and 2019 TACP, which reads: “No covered person shall, directly or indirectly, contrive or attempt to contrive the outcome of any other aspect of any event.”
Whilst Section D.2.a.i of the 2017 and 2018 TACP, states: “In the event any Player is approached by any person who offers or provides any type of money, benefit or Consideration to a player to (i) influence the outcome or any other aspect of any event, or (ii) provide Inside Information, it shall be the player’s obligation to report such incident to the TIU [Now ITIA] as soon as possible.”
Arreche had an ATP singles ranking of 567 in his career, whilst the incident is said to have taken place at matches between 2017 and 2019.
The case was ruled on by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer Professor Richard H. McLaren, O.C, and the sanction means that the player is banned from attending or playing any tennis event which is authorised or sanctioned by any international tennis governing body or national association for the next four years.
In 2018, Nicolás Kicker was also suspended from the sport found guilty of match-fixing by the Tennis Integrity Unit, along with Patrick Heras and Federico Coria whilst in April 2021 Franco Feitt was found to have violated the Anti-Corruption Program over a four year period.
