David Beckham signs on as global sports ambassador for Bank of America
Bank of America has added one of sport’s most recognisable figures to its roster, announcing a multi-year deal with Sir David Beckham as ambassador for its global sports programme, Sports with Us.
The partnership will see Beckham front the bank’s sports portfolio, spanning properties such as FIFA World Cup 26, the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America, the Masters Tournament, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The Sports with Us platform is designed to “inspire, connect and impact communities through sports”, aligning event sponsorships with youth participation, wellbeing and local economic impact.
Beckham said he had seen “firsthand how programmes such as Sports with Us make real change and allow access and opportunities that are vital in our communities,” adding that Bank of America’s plans to use sport “as a vehicle for change” chimed with his own work with organisations including UNICEF.
David Tyrie, Bank of America’s President, Marketing, Digital and Specialised Consumer Client Solutions, said Beckham’s community work and commitment to participation made him a strong fit for the role, and that the partnership would help the bank “accelerate change and invest where it matters most”.
As part of the wider strategy, Bank of America will continue to activate across soccer, endurance and golf, including its Golf with Us initiative, which aims to expand access to the sport for young people, and a series of Sports with Us clinics in US cities that bring together athletes, celebrities and staff to deliver life-skills sessions through sport.

Dan Helfrich takes inaugural COO role at US Soccer
The US Soccer Federation has created a new Chief Operating Officer position and appointed long-time Deloitte executive Dan Helfrich to the role, as the organisation continues to modernise its business operations ahead of a pivotal period for the sport in North America.
Helfrich, the former Chair and CEO of Deloitte Consulting LLP, will join US Soccer on January 1, 2026 following his retirement from the firm in December. Based in Atlanta, he will report to CEO and Secretary General JT Batson and oversee the federation’s day-to-day operations, with a remit that includes optimising business processes and delivering on US Soccer’s “In Service to Soccer” strategy.
Batson described Helfrich as bringing a “rare combination of deep operational expertise, curiosity, and a lifelong passion for the game”, noting that US Soccer has “more than doubled in the last few years” and needs to move faster to meet its ambitions across 27 national teams and the wider game.
A former Georgetown University player and long-time youth and community soccer advocate, Helfrich said the appointment comes at “a pivotal time for the sport in our country”, adding that he is focused on strengthening US Soccer’s connection with players, coaches, referees and fans “to ensure soccer is accessible to everyone, everywhere, for generations to come”.
Orioles add veteran voice Miguel Cairo and rising coach Joe Singley to 2026 staff
The Baltimore Orioles are continuing to reshape their dugout for 2026, with the American League club set to add experienced coach Miguel Cairo and emerging catching specialist Joe Singley to Craig Albernaz’s staff.
Cairo is expected to join as Major League infield coach, bringing nearly three decades of MLB experience as a player, executive and coach. The 51-year-old enjoyed a 17-year playing career as an infielder before moving into the Cincinnati Reds’ front office, and later taking on player development roles with the New York Yankees.
He went on to serve as bench coach for the Chicago White Sox and stepped in as interim manager during Tony La Russa’s health-related absence in 2022. Most recently, Cairo acted as interim manager for the Washington Nationals in 2025 following the dismissal of Dave Martinez, giving him further frontline leadership experience.
Singley, 28, is set to be named field coordinator/Major League catching coach after a season with the Miami Marlins as catching coach, assistant catching director and bullpen catcher. The former Coastal Carolina University player previously spent three seasons in the Reds’ organisation in bullpen and catching roles.
With first-year manager Albernaz taking charge and a number of younger coaches on staff, Cairo’s veteran perspective and Singley’s recent playing and coaching background are expected to add balance to the Orioles’ on-field leadership group as the club looks to sustain its recent progress.
Kumar Sangakkara returns as Rajasthan Royals head coach for IPL 2026
Rajasthan Royals have turned to a familiar figure to reset their IPL project, confirming that Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara will return as head coach for the 2026 season following the exit of Rahul Dravid.
Sangakkara has been the franchise’s Director of Cricket since 2021 and previously held the head coach role from 2021 to 2024, overseeing a run to the 2022 final and a playoff berth in 2024. He will now again combine both responsibilities after the Royals endured a dismal 2025 campaign, finishing ninth in the 10-team league with just four wins from 14 matches.
Dravid’s second stint with the franchise ended abruptly despite a multi-year agreement, with the former India captain departing after a structural review of the team’s underperformance. The change in the dugout is part of a broader reset following a blockbuster trade that sent long-term wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings, with Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran moving in the opposite direction.
Rajasthan have also released seven players ahead of the mini auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16, including overseas trio Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
