Everton and Colombia centre back, Yerry Mina is the subject of an FA investigation following his part in a video promoting betting brand, Betjuego.
Sky Sports reported the Colombian international is likely to have breached the FA’s rule E8(3), when appearing in the gambling promotion.
The rule states: “An individual Participant (player, coach, agent etc) when acting in a personal capacity, shall not be permitted to advertise or promote any betting activity that Participant is prohibited from engaging in by Rule E8(1) or E8(2).”
Players are subject to Rule E8(1), which prohibits betting, either directly or indirectly, on any match or competition that takes place anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, “Rule E8(2) applies to any Match Official, Match Official coach or Match Official assessor operating at Level 4 or below, and any other person who is a Participant by virtue only of their involvement at a Club below Step 4 in the National League System, or at a Club at Steps 3-7 inclusive of the Women’s Football Pyramid.”
It is understood that as soon as Mina realised he might be in breach of the rules, both he and the betting company involved removed the advert in question.
