Serie B club Palermo FC has struck a deal with global fintech SumUp for the latter to become a sponsorship partner of the club.

With Palermo FC a member of the wider City Football Group – parent owners of Manchester City, New York City and more – the partnership also offers brand significance for SumUp on a global scale.

SumUp sponsorship branding will feature throughout Palermo’s Renzo Barbera stadium and within specially designated advertising spaces.

Giovanni Gardini, CEO of Palermo Football Club, added: “We are proud to embark on this journey with SumUp, a visionary partner that shares our commitment to innovation and efficiency.

“Collaborating with a global company like SumUp represents a significant step forward in developing the Palermo brand on the international stage.”

SumUp aims to bring tailored benefits for local businesses as part of the newly agreed deal. This includes dedicated promotions and customised offers designed specifically by SumUp to cater to the needs of merchants within the territory.

The partnership with Palermo FC is an important one for SumUp, particularly in light of the increasing appetite for cashless payments in Sicilian provinces. Cities such as Ragusa, Messina, Trapani, and Palermo are witnessing the highest percentages of contactless payments made via cards or smartphones, according to the company.

Marc-Alexander Christ, Co-Founder of SumUp, added: “Our partnership with Palermo FC doesn’t just  bolster our local presence but strengthens our collaboration with Sicilian merchants and deepens our ties to the region.

“This alliance affords us the unique opportunity to align our brand with Palermo FC, a historic team boasting a large and dedicated fanbase, as well as an established global reputation.

“Since becoming a part of the City Football Group in July 2022, Palermo FC has joined the ranks of some of the world’s most prominent sports holding companies.”
