Super League Basketball (SLB) has announced that the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham will host the league’s inaugural Cup Final on 9 March 2025.

The SLB stated that the decision to host the event at the Motorpoint Arena reflects its commitment to growing the sport’s profile and expanding its reach into new areas. This marks the first time the venue will host a major British basketball event.

Supporting the growth of the sport in the Midlands, a region with a rich sporting heritage, was mentioned by SLB in its recent announcement.

Vaughn Millette, Interim Chair of SLB, commented: “We are excited to make history by bringing the Super League Basketball Cup Final to the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham.

“This venue is a perfect fit for an event of this magnitude. Its impressive facilities and passionate local community provide an exceptional platform to showcase the best of British basketball. We are eager to see fans from across the UK come together to witness a thrilling day of action, marking a new chapter in our sport’s growth.”

The event will host back-to-back finals for both men’s and women’s teams, featuring the nation’s top talent competing for Cup titles. The league has noted that there will be activities for all ages beyond the games.

Recently, it was confirmed that the men’s competition will include seven wildcard entrants from Basketball England and Basketball Scotland joining the nine SLB teams.

For the women’s competition, the top four SLB Championship teams as of December 31 2024, will compete in a knockout tournament, with first facing fourth and second playing third for a spot in the final.

In September, DAZN secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the newly established SLB. Following the deal, all games are accessible to DAZN’s global audience at no cost. The streaming service developed a dedicated space on its platform for SLB, featuring live and on-demand content throughout the competition.

At the start of this month, the league followed the DAZN partnership up with several other agreements.

In a bid to enhance production, SLB revealed that Bristol-based video production group Brandvox and EMG / Gravity Media, a sports broadcasting agency formed via the merger of EMG and Gravity Media earlier this year, have officially partnered with the league.
