Amazon Prime Video has further extended its sports portfolio with the addition of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) in Canada.

The online streaming service has become one of the domestic Canadian broadcast partners of the PWHL which, like its male counterpart in the NHL, is composed of US and Canadian teams.

As well as adding Amazon as a media partner the league has also renewed its arrangement with TSN, RDS, and CBC/Radio-Canada, with coverage split between the four media outlets.

Amy Scheer, PWHL Senior Vice President of Business Operations, said: “The consistent visibility and accessibility of PWHL games in partnership with TSN and RDS, CBC/Radio-Canada, and Prime Video is a win for the League, but most importantly for our fans in Canada.

“The composition of our Canadian broadcast schedule reflects a growing interest in women’s hockey and a commitment from our partners to showcase the PWHL to fans and new audiences on a variety of platforms.”

Amazon’s coverage will consist of exclusive live broadcasting of all 16 Tuesday night games throughout the 2024/25 season, which begins on Saturday 30 November. The platform will also exclusively distribute one playoff seminal and will cover Montréal Victoire fixtures, the latter alongside RDS and Radio-Canada on ICI TÉLÉ and ICI TOU.TV.

The platform has emerged as a major force in sports broadcasting in recent years, picking up the rights to a number of prominent sports organisations including Spain’s LaLiga, Brazil’s Serie A, UEFA, Top Rank boxing and international cricket.

Magda Grace, Head of Prime Video, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, remarked: “Prime Video is thrilled to announce this new partnership with the Professional Women’s Hockey League, furthering our investment in women’s sports. The PWHL is Canada’s most exciting new league and we’re committed to help it expand its audience across the country.

“Adding to the growing lineup of live sports available to Prime members at no additional cost, Prime Video will be the exclusive streaming destination for all the PWHL electrifying action every Tuesday night in Canada, with all Montréal Victoire games available in both French and English.”

Regarding the rest of the schedule, TSN will have exclusive rights to 56 regular season games across its linear channels, streaming platforms and apps. CBC has a similar deal for 17 Saturday afternoon games, and lastly, the PWHL finals will be broadcast exclusively on TSN and RDS.
