Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has teamed up with Hollywood director Matthew Vaughn to launch the independent film studio, UV Marv.

The studio has already begun operations, with Variety reporting that two action films have been completed and a third is “actively in development”. While details about these movies are still under wraps, information on the first film is expected to be released soon.

According to an announcement, UV Marv is set to combine the world of sport and storytelling, all while embracing innovative technology “with a nod to tradition.”

Ronaldo’s partner, Vaughn, is no stranger to success in the film industry, with a portfolio that includes films like Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and The Kingsman series.

Vaughn has spoken highly of the Portuguese star, stating: “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him – he’s a real-life superhero.”

Expanding his empire

For Ronaldo, this marks his latest venture in the media business. The former Real Madrid striker has increased his focus off the pitch since joining Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nasr in 2023.

Most recently, he launched his own YouTube channel, UR Cristiano, and, like on the pitch, it broke numerous records. By the end of the first day, subscriptions surged to over 20 million, and within a week, the channel surpassed 50 million subscribers, becoming the fastest-growing channel in YouTube history.

Content on the platform has ranged from highlights of his career to collaborations with other YouTubers such as Mr Beast, who runs the most-subscribed channel on the platform. However, recently, fans may have noticed a new direction.

In recent weeks, Ronaldo’s long-term partner has posted some of her own content, showcasing her experience at the Paris Fashion Week. The newest video is an announcement of UV Marv, which can also be viewed on X.

Ronaldo is currently the highest paid athelte and has over one billion followers across all social media platforms. While he continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible for an athlete of his age, these projects clearly signal that he’s beginning to shift focus beyond the pitch.
