Boxing promotion BOXXER has signed a new broadcast deal with the BBC which will see boxing return to the UK’s national broadcaster for the first time in 20 years.
BOXXER boxing events will air on BBC over the next 12 months on BBC Two and BBC Three, as well as on iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with the first event expected to take place by the end of 2025.
Dates and participants will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Partnering with the BBC to deliver big-time British boxing on Saturday night TV is a historic moment,” said BOXXER Promoter Ben Shalom. “We’re proud to bring the most entertaining British fighters to the biggest possible audience.
“This huge platform will give our fights the exposure they deserve and helps us take the sport to huge new audiences.”
With a roster that includes boxers such as Chris Eubank Jr., Joshua Buatsi, Ben Whittaker and Adam Azim, as well as female boxers such as Savannah Marshall.
BOXXER hosted an all-female card on March 7, 2025, headlined by welterweight world champion Lauren Price as she defeated Natasha Jonas to unify the WBA, WBC and IBF world titles.
Shalom and BOXXER have also hosted major UK boxing events such as Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook and Liam Smith Jr. vs. Chris Eubank Jr.
With BBC being a free-to-air broadcaster, Shalom will look to leverage the large scale audience the BBC provides to grow BOXXER and its fighters’ appeal to new and existing fans of the sport.
BOXXER’s previous broadcast deal with Sky Sports ended in June 2025 after a four-year partnership. This leaves Sky Sports without a long-term boxing promotion partnership and leaves questions over its future commitment to the sport.
Focus on British Boxing
The BBC’s history with boxing is historic. It was the first UK broadcaster to televise a live boxing match between Eric Boon and Arthur Danahar in 1938.
Since then, the BBC has aired fights from some of the UK’s most decorated boxers, including Lennox Lewis’ redemption win over Hasim Rahman in their second fight in 2001, as well as several ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed fights such as against Marco Antonio Barrera and Kevin Kelley.
“Bringing professional boxing back to primetime BBC television, free-to-air, and to our extensive digital platforms is an exciting moment for us and for boxing fans,” said Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport.
“Boxing is a sport that we know deeply resonates with younger audiences and this deal with Boxxer enables us to showcase the next generation of British fighters – delivering top-tier national boxing moments to all audiences, wherever and however they want it”.
With BOXXER competitors Matchroom Sports and Queensbury Promotions shifting their attention to hosting more fights in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia, Shalom remains focused on continuing to build British boxing with the BBC deal.
Speaking to Insider Sport last year, Shalom noted the importance of Saudi Arabia’s influence of helping to organise some of the sport’s biggest fights, but remained cautious of not wanting to alienate the UK scene.
He said: “What Saudi Arabia has done in the international setting and made fights that we didn’t know were possible, bringing people together, you have to say that is extremely good for the sport and you have to commend them for that but boxing is a global sport and it has to be healthy everywhere.”
