Cristiano Ronaldo becomes shareholder in WOW FC
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a stake in MMA promotion WOW FC as the organisation continues its push into new global markets.
Announced on November 27, WOW FC said Ronaldo’s arrival as a shareholder is a significant step in its ambition to become one of the world’s leading combat sports promotions.
The company has grown rapidly over the past year, with event attendance rising by more than 400% and ticket sales regularly exceeding 5,000 per show and its events are now broadcast in more than 170 countries.
“MMA represents values I truly believe in – discipline, respect, resilience, and the constant pursuit of excellence,” said Ronaldo.
“WOW FC is building something unique and powerful, and I’m proud to join this project to help elevate the sport and inspire the next generation.”.
In an announcement, WOW FC said those principles mirror the attributes which have defined Ronaldo’s career, and that his involvement will support plans to expand across Europe, LATAM and the Middle East.
The move also adds to a year of wider off-field activity for Ronaldo. In April he launched the independent film studio UV Marv with Hollywood director Matthew Vaughn, looking to replicate the success of his YouTube channel, UR Cristiano, which broke multiple platform records by surpassing 50 million subscribers in its first week.
Enhanced Games bolsters leadership team ahead of NASDAQ listing
Enhanced Games has overhauled its leadership and board structure as it prepares for its public market debut on the NASDAQ.
Co-founder Maximilian Martin has been appointed CEO, taking over the company’s day to day management as Founder Aron D’Souza steps back from operations while remaining a shareholder.
The organisation has also confirmed two additions to its board. Christian Angermayer, the entrepreneur and Founder of Apeiron Investment Group, will serve as Executive Chairman. Jim Murren, the former Chairman and Chief Executive of MGM Resorts, joins the board with experience across global entertainment, regulation and public private partnerships.
The company has added even further depth to its executive team with the appointment of Sid Banthiya as Chief Financial Officer following senior roles at Milk Bar and Blue Apron.
Alex Lopez, who previously led major global creative campaigns at Nike and later served as President of McCann Worldgroup, becomes Chief Brand Officer. Rick Adams, who spent a decade leading sport performance at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, becomes Chief Sporting Officer. Chris Jones, formerly of FanDuel, has been named Chief Communications Officer.
The leadership expansion comes as the organisation announced it will go public through a business combination with A Paradise Acquisition Corp. The company will trade on the NASDAQ under the symbol ENHA and has secured an additional $40m through a private placement to support its next phase of growth.
Rangers part ways with CEO and Sporting Director
Rangers FC has confirmed it has parted company with CEO Patrick Stewart and Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell.
In a statement issued by the club, Rangers said: “Rangers expresses its sincere gratitude to both Patrick and Kevin for their leadership and unwavering commitment to the club.
“Chairman Andrew Cavenagh and Vice Chairman Paraag Marathe have already begun the search process and, until permanent hires are made, Director Fraser Thornton will assume the role of acting CEO.”
The statement was notably brief, providing little detail about more than the departures and interim arrangements.
Stewart joined Rangers in December, leaving a long career at Manchester United where he had risen up the ranks after five years with UEFA’s Champions League commercial agency.
Thelwell’s appointment was announced in April but he only took up the role after leaving Everton, where he had spent three years as director of football. Both executives faced criticism following a poor start to the season which saw manager Russell Martin dismissed after just 17 games.
The departures follow a recent US-led takeover of the club, with Director Fraser Thornton stepping in as interim CEO while permanent replacements are found
Donald Rukare elected President of Commonwealth Sport
Donald Rukare has been elected President of Commonwealth Sport, becoming the first leader from the continent of Africa to take the position.
He steps into the role at a pivotal time for the organisation, with the Scottish city of Glasgow hosting the 2026 Games and Amdavad confirmed for the 2030 centenary edition in 2030.
Rukare brings more than 30 years of experience across sport, law and diplomacy, having held senior roles with World Aquatics, Africa Aquatics and Commonwealth Games Uganda, alongside serving as Interim President of Commonwealth Sport.
Rukare received broad backing from the 74 member nations and territories for a programme focused on strengthening athlete representation and continuing the work of the Games Reset, an initiative designed to make hosting more flexible and sustainable.
He has also highlighted greater support for member CGAs and the expansion of programmes such as GAPS and eqUIP, which promote inclusive pathways and youth leadership.
Together, we will build on the momentum of Glasgow 2026, showcase the next generation of stars at the Malta 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games and prepare for an inspiring centenary Games in India in 2030,” said Rukare.
“Our athletes deserve every opportunity to shine, and I am committed to ensuring that Commonwealth Sport remains athlete-centred and a force for unity, excellence, and impact across all our regions.”
