Real Madrid have posted a revenue exceeding €1bn for its last financial year, marking the first time a sports team has ever reached this figure.
After announcing its financial results for the financial year ending 30 June, 2023/24 figures its revenue increased by 27% from the previous year, reaching €1.07bn.
Net income also increased by 32% despite standing at €15.4m. Deductions amounted to €155m in total after player trading with net equity standing at €571m.
This financial year now stands as the most successful ever by a professional sports team after Real Madrid knocked off FC Barcelona’s 2018/19 €990m previous highest revenue year for a football club.
The Dallas Cowboys previously held the record for the most revenue generated in a single season with €1.05bn in 2022, with Madrid narrowly beating this figure.
There are a myriad of facets into Real Madrid’s record revenue season. The newly renovated Santiago Bernabéu stadium helped bring in significant matchday and hospitality revenue after remodelling many of its VIP packages and boxes.
Real Madrid’s home stadium has also brought in additional revenue by hosting major events outside of football, such as the recent Taylor Swift concert as part of the pop stars international ‘Eras’ tour in May. The stadium will also host an international NFL game next year also.
Elsewhere, the La Liga club signed significant sponsorship deals over the past year. HP was brought on board to become the team’s first-ever sleeve sponsor in a reportedly lucrative €75m deal.
Real Madrid also inked a deal with Saudi Investment Bank to become the club’s official banking partner, along with several other sponsorships with the likes of Adidas, Emirates and BMW.
Performances on the pitch also helped the club reach its record revenue figure. Madrid won the La Liga title as well as winning its 15th European Cup during the 2023/24 season, with many of its star players, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham enhancing their standing in the global game.
There is also the added luxury of recently adding French superstar Kylian Mbappé to the team for next season, who brings with him one of the largest brands in football today, as well as being one of the game’s best players.
2024 can already be considered a success for Los Blancos with its on-and-off the field success. Furthermore, Brand Finance revealed Real Madrid as football’s most valuable club brand at €1.7bn.
