Paddy Power has announced that its BIGGER 180 initiative has exceeded the £1m mark during the Paddy Power World Darts Championship (WDC).
Now in its second year, the campaign sees the sportsbook donate £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for each 180 scored during the tournament. Additionally, last week there was a £180,000 bonus that was split equally between Prostate Cancer UK, the player who performs the perfect leg and a fan selected at random from the crowd at that moment.
Today (3 January) is the final day of the competition, with 17-year-old Luke Littler set to compete against Michael van Gerwen. While the final presents an opportunity for additional donations, Sir Christopher Hoy, former track cyclist and racing driver, emphasised the deeper purpose of the initiative.
“This isn’t just about trophies or donations – it’s about saving lives. It takes just 30 seconds to check your risk, and it could save your life,” Hoy said.
Although one day remains, this year has already surpassed last year’s total of £914,000, which Paddy Power later rounded up to £1m. The funds are being directed to Prostate Cancer UK’s TRANSFORM trial, an innovative initiative aimed at developing a national prostate cancer screening programme.
“Reaching the £1m mark is a huge milestone for The BIGGER 180 campaign, and we are now one big step closer to making a long-lasting and meaningful change to men’s health by funding Prostate Cancer UK’s TRANSFORM trial,” added Hoy.
“The TRANSFORM trial aims to find the best way to test men for prostate cancer, so we can be sure which is the most effective method for a nationwide screening programme that could save thousands of lives every year. This massive cash injection can have an impact on men’s lives for years to come.”
Prostate cancer is often referred to as a silent killer among men, with one in eight men expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime. Every 15 minutes, another man is diagnosed, and 23% of men don’t talk about their health – not even with their friends.
Hoy encouraged fans to end The BIGGER 180 campaign on a high note, hoping for a final nine-darter to trigger another big bonus.
Paddy Power concluded: “This campaign isn’t just about trophies – it’s about dads, brothers, grandads and mates. “We’ve smashed £1m, but the real victory comes when men take action. Don’t miss your shot – take the risk checker today.”
