Former lionesses lead BBC’s EURO 2025 punditry team

BBC announces punditry team for EURO 2025

England Women’s EURO 2022 winners Jill Scott, Stephanie Houghton and Ellen White will star as part of BBC’s coverage of the upcoming Women’s EURO 2025.

The trio will be joined in Switzerland by presenters Gabby Logan, Alex Scott and Jeanette Kwakye across the entirety of the 26-day competition (July 2-27), and also by other pundits such as Anita Asante, Ellie Roebuck and England’s all-time most-capped player Fara Williams

Analysis will also come from former Manchester City defender Nedum Onouha and Scotland Captain Rachel Corsie, with Arsenal Women’s Manager Renee Slegers and German international Josie Henning also joining BBC’s coverage in their punditry debuts on the network.

BBC will exclusively broadcast 16 live games from EURO 2025 across BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer; 11 group stage fixtures, three quarter-final matches, one semi-final and the final on 27 July. ITV holds the exclusive rights for 15 matches, including one quarter-final, one semi-final and the final.

BBC will begin its coverage of EURO 2025 on the opening day with hosts Switzerland vs. Norway on July 2 at 8pm. Wales vs. Netherlands on July 5 at 5pm will be the only Wales game live on BBC during the group stage, while England vs. Netherlands will also be the only England group stage fixture on BBC.

Robyn Cowen, Jonathan Pearce and Vicki Sparks will be the lead commentators on every live BBC broadcast, joined by former England internationals Rachel Brown-Finnis, Gilly Flaherty, Izzy Christiansen and Wales international Helen Ward on co-commentary.

Scott, who made 161 caps for England before retiring in 2022 after winning the EUROs, said she is “absolutely buzzing” to share her experience and insight as part of BBC’s coverage this summer.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be part of the BBC team for the Euros!,” she said.

“Tournaments like this are what football’s all about; the passion, the drama, the unforgettable moments. I can’t wait to get stuck in, share some insight, and hopefully bring a bit of fun along the way too.”

Repeat success?

While England will be uniting in July in hopes of retaining their European Championship, BBC will also be hoping to replicate the viewership success of 2022.

England’s 2-1 victory over Germany at Wembley Stadium to win EURO 2022 was watched by a peak audience of 17.4 million on BBC, making it the most-watched women’s football game on UK television to date. The final being held at Wembley stadium, with a record attendance of 87,192 peopled, undoubtedly played a key role in the BBC’s EURO 2022 final viewership hitting such a number.

In comparison to England’s 2023 World Cup loss to Spain a year later, BBC revealed it was watched by a peak audience of 12 million viewers, a higher viewership that year than the 2023 men’s Wimbledon final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic
