FOX Sports deepens Google Cloud partnership with gen AI capabilities

FOX Sports has linked with Google Cloud to unlock more from its sports broadcasting catalogue through Google’s generative AI tech.

Thanks to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Vision solution, FOX Sports can now easily search for footage across an archive of more than 1.9 million videos while also expanding its content production capabilities to deliver more tailored experiences to its global audience.

FOX Sports will further utilise the Vertex AI Vision tool by analysing games footage and commentary from live events in real-time.

Brad Zager, Executive Producer at FOX Sports, commented: “With Google Cloud, we’re able to utilise video search, advanced machine learning, and artificial intelligence to automate one of the most manual processes in sports media: tagging and searching video content.

“Compared to previous media management workflows, our team is able to swiftly find relevant content, which is critical in the business of live sports.”

The latest move from both FOX Sports and Google Cloud expands on their previous three-year collaboration to develop the FOX Sports Intelligent Asset Service that uses Google Cloud’s machine learning capabilities for easier media assets management. Announced in 2020, the service was deployed across all major Fox Sports broadcasts by 2022.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added: “FOX Sports is committed to providing its viewers the best possible experiences across platforms, and that starts with the technology that powers them.

“By choosing Google Cloud’s AI technologies, FOX Sports is not only maximising its content production capabilities, but also delivering transformative viewing experiences that keep its audiences engaged and entertained.”
