Ahead of the new Women’s Super League (WSL) and Barclays Women’s Championship this week, both leagues have launched a campaign by bringing some of the best women’s players together.
Featuring 20 players from clubs across both the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship, the ‘Stakes Have Never Been Higher’ creative campaign aims to reflect the new heights reached by the women’s game in recent seasons.
The 2023/24 season broke numerous records across the board, which saw over one million fans attend WSL and Women’s Championship games last season. Viewership numbers also grew significantly, indicating that women’s football in the UK is on an upward trajectory.
The creative campaign attempts to emblemise this, featuring players such as Manchester City’s Kerstin Casparij, Arsenal’s Katie McCabe, Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Liverpool’s Taylor Hinds and more WSL stars to help drive engagement for the new season.
From the Barclays Women’s Championship, newly promoted Portsmouth and Newcastle United are represented by Ava Rowbotham and Shania Hayles respectively, while Christie Harrison-Murray (Birmingham City), Tyler Toland (Blackburn Rovers), and more are featured.
The campaign launches on today (16 September), and runs until the end of the month, visible nationally across out of home placements, digital media including YouTube and Meta, as well as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+.
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher is a fully integrated multi-channel campaign developed by the leagues and its creative agency Dark Horses to drive excitement and anticipation for the season ahead.
With the Barclays Women’s Championship campaign already underway having kicked off on September 8, the 2024/25 WSL season begins on 20 September with champions Chelsea hosting Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow on BBC.
This season, all top flight games not chosen for broadcast will be shown live on the league’s new YouTube channel, Barclays WSL, while selected Barclays Women’s Championship fixtures per match round will be broadcasted on the division’s channel, Barclays WC.
