A new football platform named Goalden View has been launched, introducing the first-ever player popularity ranking for players competing in the Premier League.
The platform offers a weekly ranking of every Premier League player through the Goalden View Popularity Ranking (GVPR), which analyses sentiment from over 100,000 global media outlets and social media platforms.
Goalden View’s founders have revealed that the algorithm behind the ranking was developed in collaboration with mathematicians and data scientists from top universities and academic institutions, including Princeton, Stanford, Cambridge, Northwestern, Sorbonne and Technion.
The GVPR is a free platform designed for use by clubs, players, agents, commercial partners, sponsors, brands and marketers, allowing them to track and compare the popularity of Premier League players as their rankings shift each week based on events both on and off the pitch.
Dana Namerode, Founder of Goalden View, commented: “We’re excited to launch the Goalden View Popularity Ranking (GVPR) for Premier League fans around the world to engage with and debate. All football fans can relate to discussions on the way to a game, in the bar post-match or in the pub with their friends about their favourite, most likeable or best-performing players.
“With the algorithm we’ve developed, which uses both qualitative and quantitative data sources, we can now put a numerical value against popularity, which we hope will help fuel those discussions throughout what promises to be another thrilling, tightly contested and no doubt controversial Premier League season.”
Data is driving sports and in particular, football as of late. In March, Insider Sport discussed how Kitman Labs uses data intelligence to enhance Premier League players’ commercial value with the company’s CEO Stephen Smith.
