Amazon’s Prime Video will broadcast fixtures from the Brasileiro Serie A football league from next season as part of a new five-year broadcast rights deal.

Signed with the Liga Forte União (LFU), Prime Video will show 38 games per season exclusively on its platform, beginning April 2025.

One fixture per match week of Brazil’s top-flight football league will be streamed on Prime Video and does not require any additional costs for Amazon Prime Brazil members.

Alex Green, Managing Director of Prime Video Sport, International, said: “Serie A brings some of the biggest clubs and matches in Brazilian football to Prime Video and represents another landmark moment for our growing sports offering around the world.

“This long-term deal will allow us to bring the Brasileirão to all Amazon Prime members at no extra cost with our best-in-class production that will put fans at the heart of the action throughout the championship.”

Amazon joins free-to-air TV network Record and online video platform Youtube as Brasileiro Serie A as its latest broadcast partner for LFU clubs. This comes off the heels of Globo inking a new five-year deal to show matches of the other Brazilian club organisation Libra.

The LFU is made up of 32 Brazilian football clubs from the Serie A and Serie B leagues who look to maximise sports revenue opportunities, such as media rights, sponsorships and other commercial revenue.

Clubs like Corinthians, Internacional, Fluminense and Vasco da Gama are a part of the LFU, whilst Libra consists of 18 clubs such as Flamengo and Atletico Mineiro looking to achieve the same financial opportunities as its LFU counterparts.

Marcelo Paz, LFU President, commented on the Amazon deal: “Combining our clubs’ strength, tradition and fan bases with Amazon’s expertise and technology is a major win for national football.

“This partnership will allow us to provide innovative experiences for millions of fans and reinforces our commitment to enhancing and transforming Brazilian football. We will continue to innovate and create the best possible opportunities for LFU clubs.”

Furthermore, both the LFU and Libra will be looking to leverage the upcoming launch of Brazil’s first regulated sports betting market in January 2025, with several clubs already signing deals with betting companies.

Gambling firms will also be keen to maximise its visibility in what is anticipated to be a fiercely competitive betting market once it launches. The domestic Amazon deal will help those companies looking to gain an early foothold once the Brasileiro Serie A 2024/25 season kicks off in April 2025.
