DAZN and FuboTV announced on 3 June that they have entered into a new partnership that will see both sports streaming platforms distribute their vast sports rights content in the US and Canada.
As part of the multi-year partnership, both OTT broadcasters will launch their own operated linear channels on one another’s platforms with Fubo picking up DAZN’s exclusive boxing and MMA content via DAZN 1.
Fubo customers will be required to purchase a stand-alone subscription to access DAZN 1 or as an add-on to Fubo’s virtual MPVP product. Additionally, the partnership enables Fubo to offer its customers DAZN’s live Pay-Per-View events, which will most likely include exclusive boxing fights and events.
DAZN will launch Fubo Sports onto its platform, a free ad-supported streaming channel that features 400 live sporting events annually, such as UEFA football competitions, the English Premier League, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) and Ultimate Strongman.
Launched in 2019, Fubo Sports adds DAZN as the latest digital channel to be integrated. Along with the vast amount of sporting content it broadcasts, it also provides sports documentaries and movies.
DAZN, alongside its exclusive boxing content, also has rights for NFL games through NFL Game Pass, enabling US costumes to watch out-of-market games that are not televised on Cable. Other sports on DAZN that are now available on Fubon include snooker, darts, motorsports, and more.
“Fubo and DAZN’s partnership delivers more premium sports to fans, wherever they choose to watch,” said David Gandler, Co-Founder and CEO of Fubo.
“Adding DAZN’s unmatched fight content enhances our sports entertainment lineup while offering customers greater flexibility. We’re also excited to expand our FAST channel, Fubo Sports, through DAZN and explore further opportunities with Shay and his team.”
A multi-hybrid approach
The DAZN and Fubo content partnership is the latest example of streaming companies cooperating to find balance in an increasingly competitive sports broadcast landscape, and to diversify their content from traditional br
While the DAZN service on Fubo will require an additional subscription, enabling more content across a singular platform appeals to younger, digital-native demographics who prefer one platform for all content.
At present, DAZN prepares to host its exclusive rights as broadcast partner of the FIFA Club World Cup, taking place in the US from 15 June-13 July 2025, having secured the global broadcast deal in a landmark $1bn agreement.
Of significance, Fubo lodged and won a legal appeal to block the proposed Disney, FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery joint venture that would have seen sports content across ESPN, FOX Sports and TNT Sports bundled into one single sports streaming platform.
The platform would have required $50 per month for a subscription, but came with a vast amount of live sports content, including NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, tennis, golf and European football.
Fubo filed the lawsuit as it believed the joint venture to be anti-competitive as it was projected that it would have engulfed the sports broadcast landscape with an 80% market share.
Gandler commented on the lawsuit hearing: “The ruling is a victory not only for Fubo but also for consumers. This decision will help ensure that consumers have access to a more competitive marketplace with multiple sports streaming options.
“Fubo has said all along that we seek equal treatment from these media giants, and a level playing field in our industry. The proposed joint venture was only the latest example of anticompetitive practices that The Walt Disney Company, FOX Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery has consistently engaged in for many years. We believe these practices monopolise the market, stifle competition and cheat consumers from deserved choice.”
