Birmingham City has become the latest English club to partner with Amazon Prime to produce a new behind-the-scenes documentary.

Although the documentary is currently untitled, it will follow the Blues’ journey to promotion this season, with a special focus on the influence of NFL icon and Birmingham City minority owner, Tom Brady.

The series will be produced by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders and a lifelong supporter of the club. Birmingham City Board Member Matt Alvarez will also serve as an Executive Producer, alongside Brady’s media company, Religion of Sports, and production house Whisper.

Set for release this summer, the documentary will offer fans an inside look at the club’s day-to-day operations, its heritage and the fanbase that has stood by Birmingham City throughout its history.

Capturing club history

While further details of the project remain unconfirmed, this announcement may explain some of the recent camera activity spotted at matches.

Birmingham City secured promotion to the Championship after being crowned League One champions last week, but narrowly missed out on silverware in the Vertu Motors Trophy final, losing to Peterborough this past weekend.

Following the defeat, Birmingham City Chairman Tom Wagner and Brady were seen addressing the squad in the stands, a moment that is almost certain to feature in the upcoming documentary.

The Blues’ rise this season has drawn comparisons to that of their League One rivals, Wrexham AFC.

Both clubs have benefited from significant investment from their US owners, both boasting connections to high-profile American celebrity backers. Birmingham is now set to follow in Wrexham’s footsteps with its own behind-the-scenes documentary.

Released in 2022, Welcome to Wrexham proved to be a huge commercial success for the club, sparking a surge in support across North America, a rare achievement for a lower-league side.

Birmingham City may be hoping to replicate that success, aiming to make waves across the Atlantic at a time when many Premier League clubs are already competing for attention in the US market.
