DAZN has announced that German football clubs Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich have joined the Infinity League, an indoor football event launched by the entertainment platform.

The firm announced that the indoor football league, taking place on 26 May at the BMW Park in Munich, will feature both female and male teams from the Bundesliga. Additionally, Delay Sports Berlin, known for its co-founders and internet personalities Elias Nerlich and Sidney Fried, will participate.

Alice Mascia, CEO DACH and Group CMO at DAZN, commented: “The Infinity League marks a turning point in sports entertainment by combining football heritage with innovation, women’s and men’s sports, Gen Z and mainstream, elite football, music and content creators and much more.

“This event will delight fans and usher in a new era of sports entertainment. We are thrilled to be able to present this magical event to the fans in Germany and around the world together with our strong partners.”

The event will feature a male and women’s team of each club, consisting of legends, up-and-coming players and ambitious content creators who play at least at a semi-professional level.

This bolsters DAZN’s media portfolio, which it added to earlier this month when it signed a global distribution agreement with the World Rally Championship (WRC).

DAZN has also announced that there will be gamification elements to ‘loosen up’ the indoor tournament. These elements include an interactive GlassFloor playing surface that combines state-of-the-art video technology with gamification elements to create an immersive experience on site and on devices.

There will also be the use of 5G technology or body cams and microphones in the hopes of offering the opportunity to overcome physical boundaries and bring fans closer to the action.

To help produce the event, the entertainment platform has partnered with Warner Music and publisher Warner Chappell, which represent artists such as Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, becoming exclusive music partners of the Infinity League.

Additionally, DAZN has partnered with kicker, a leading German sports publisher, to report comprehensively on the event.

Alexander Wagner, Editor-in-Chief at kicker, said: “The Infinity League is an innovative concept that redefines the boundaries of sport and will captivate spectators. In particular, the use of exciting technologies and the use of mixed teams are strong signals that we expressly want to support. We are looking forward to participating in this event as a media partner and sharing the excitement with the fans.”
