Chelsea FC has collaborated with Disney+ to enhance one of its three streams for the club’s UEFA Conference League match against Denmark’s Copenhagen on 6 March.

Supporters of the Premier League club in Denmark and Sweden will be able to choose from three streams, with one of those featuring former Chelsea wingers Jesper Grønkjær and Bjarne Goldbæk.

If selected, fans will be able to watch the round of 16 coverage through blue-tinted glasses, as the two ex-players will form the commentary team. Another of the three streams will be dedicated to Copenhagen fans and for those seeking a more impartial view, there will be a third stream available.

Casper Stylsvig, Chief Revenue Officer for Chelsea FC, stated: “Disney+ is known and loved around the world for bringing sport and entertainment into the homes of millions of people.

“We are delighted to partner with them and offer our fans in Denmark the opportunity to follow our journey in Europe this season, with a well-timed fixture against Copenhagen. We are looking forward to working together and finding new ways to offer value and increased connection for our supporters.”

This initiative coincides with the launch of Disney+ in Denmark and Sweden last month, which also saw the streaming platform become available for the first time in Norway, Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Iceland and Luxembourg.

At the time of expansion, Rebecca Campbell, Chairman of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer and International, said: “We have surpassed 60.5 million paid subscribers globally, and today we continue our international expansion with the launch of Disney+ in eight countries. As a major force in the global direct-to-consumer space we’re bringing high-quality, optimistic storytelling that you expect from our brands to even more people”

Part of a wider Chelsea strategy?

As noted above by Stylsvig, this partnership allows the club to increase its connection with global supporters.

Chelsea, like many other large clubs, has used partnership and sponsorship deals as a way of engaging in new markets. This helps not only build stronger relationships with fans in those regions but also enter new markets in the hopes of generating more revenue.

In January, Chelsea partnered with Roobet as its official regional betting partner for Latin America and Canada. This move showcases the club’s commercial strategy, leveraging its presence in 32 markets to expand its reach and opportunities.

Commenting on the deal, Stylsvig remarked: “There is a huge passion for sport and entertainment across the 32 territories for the partnership, which gives the club and Roobet an incredible opportunity to drive significant growth and value through tailored content and exclusive offers for fans and users.”
